Match Report

Old Wulfs made a short trip across Wolverhampton to take on a strong Finchfield side who had won their first 3 games of summer league and scored 32 goals in the process.

Both teams started well, creating chances and working the ball across the pitch intelligently. Finchfield struck first with a well worked goal following a period of pressure. OWHC struck back soon after with Owen Shave finding space to slot a rebound following good work by Joe Mellis. Finchfield upped the pressure but left themselves exposed to a counter, allowing Owen Shave to run the length of the left hand side and score from a tight angle. Finchfield were able to respond with two goals before half time to take a narrow 3-2 lead.

Old Wulfs started the second half strongly, with Will Ashworth beating a player out wide and crossing for Owen Shave to score a reverse hit from a narrow angle and complete his hat trick. Some overly-enthusiastic complaints from Matt Griffiths led to Owen Shave (as captain) being green carded, with Finchfield able to use their numerical advantage to score 2 goals (taking the score to 5-3 in Finchfield's favour). OWHC responded by driving down the right hand side and passing to Will Ashworth who scored his first of the game with an excellent low strike. Unfortunately for OWHC, former player Rich Saunders exerted some control and was able to assist and score a goal to take the score to 8-4. A late counter of 1-2s by Matt McNay and Will Ashworth, for Will to get his second of the game provided a consolation for OWHC. The final score, despite an extremely impressive OWHC performance from a mixed 1s and 2s side with young Joe Mellis, was 8-6 to Finchfield.
