Match Report | Old Wulfs welcomed Shrewsbury for our first game back at WGS in well over 6 months, bouyed by the performance we have up at Leek last week. For the second time in 3 weeks, Wulfs were down to 10 through injury within the first 10 minutes. First Mellis, then Thompson succumbed, with Mellis coming back on to stand in the opposing D and keep a defender at least mindful. During the reshuffle Shrewsbury scored their first goal and towards the end of the first half, squeezed in a second. Wulfs were working really hard as a unit of 10 throughout, but an opposition squad of 15 players soon led to fatigue setting in. Wulfs got to half time with the game still somewhat in the balance and tried to come up with ideas as to how we could score and keep ourselves in the game. I'd love to say a reverse stick cross which looped over the goal, to be smashed in at chest height by Evans was exactly what I said... It wasn't, but it was a great way to get Wulfs back in to the game and have us a glimmer of belief that a result could be stolen. As the half went on however fatigue really started to set in on the 9 mobile Wulfs outfielders, facing a relentless onslaught against fresher, rested legs. An excellent rearguard action from Harj Duhra, Minton, the Aldersley brothers and Dan Jandu in goal kept the scoreline respectable, but in all honesty we never looked like getting anything from this particular game. Shrewsbury took advantage of our very tired legs and scored another couple of goals as the half went on. There were many good performances in very difficult circumstances - especially by Jake Aldersley as a makeshift left back, and Si Evans, who scored a deserved goal and never stopped working on the right. Today's man of the match however goes to Dan Jandu, who kept a lot of certain goals out, never let his head drop even under constant pressure.
