Match Report

Thanks to Nic Anderson for the report this week:

On another damp afternoon, the 4th team took on Leek in a bottom of the table clash without their charismatic captain.

Old Wulfs controlled the first half and opened the scoring with Anderson driving down the right hand side and pulling the ball back for Farmer to power home. The second goal came from a lovely flowing move through the midfield with Calloway providing the cross for Bains to score, his first of the season. At halftime, Old Wulfs were in control. Farmer causing all kinds of problems for the Leek defence in his new role as centre forward and Hemmings showing his class in the middle of the pitch.

The second half was a very different story. An early injury to Hill meant a shuffle around in the midfield to fill the void at left back. The axis of Hemmings, Anderson and Parnham lost control of the midfield as Leek pushed on. The deficit was reduced by some unlucky ricochets resulting with the ball falling to their centre forward, who slotted home. Old Wulfs then conceded a penalty stroke. Fortunately, Dillworth outsmarted their striker causing him to put his stroke past the post. With 5 minutes left, Leek’s best player dribbled most of the length of the pitch without being tackled to set up the equaliser.

It was a game that we should have won. A classic game of two halves. Roll on next week with a late trip to Lichfield with our captain back in charge - thank goodness.
