Match Report | A much changed OW2 made the relatively short trip to Stafford to play another of the teams pushing for promotion out of our league. Stafford caught the OW2 defence out within a couple of minutes, scoring a quick well taken goal. This seemed to fire up OW2 who then started to press Stafford back to their own half, then to their own D. However a lack of experience meant that even though positional pressure was applied, rarely did we look like scoring, although a couple of well won short corners came close, saved by the Stafford keeper. A further quick break from OW2 pressure led to a second goal, which was a reflection of the pattern of the game. Stafford seemed happy to soak up pressure and hit OW2 on the break, with Tonry out from his goal well on a number of occasions to nullify attacks. OW2 got a deserved equaliser in the last few minutes of the half - Minton with his third goal of the season flicking past the Stafford defence. Half time and 2-1. OW2 very much in the game but aware a quick goal would be required.
The second half was one way traffic in Stafford's favour as OW2 tired, with combinations of Wall, Tonry and Minton saving certain goals. Stafford scored their crucial 3rd goal halfway through and at that point OW2 heads seemed to drop a little. Hit with injuries in the last 10 minutes Stafford scored a final 2 goals to put an unfair gloss on the scoreline - remarked by Stafford themselves. Overall some good play but again lessons to be learnt about being an attacking threat. Man of the match: Ben Wall |
