Match Report

Old Wulfs welcomed North Staffs 3rds to WGS hoping to build on their promising start against Wolverhampton, knowing that improvements would be needed against a team who were used to winning in the division below last season.

Both teams started brightly and aggressively, with hard tackles flying in from both sides and very little quarter given. Both teams were evenly matched, with Jandu pulling off a number of smart saves to keep OW2 in the game, whilst McNay and Aldersley both also applied good pressure to the NS3 goal and were denied by the keeper.

Halfway through the first half, a semi-trademark Lally drag flick (semi-trademark as this one can only be described as a fast moving daisy cutter) beat the NS3 defence low to the gk's left.

NS3 tried to apply more pressure but OW2 held out to half time.

The second half continued much like the first, both keepers making smart saves to keep the game close. Lally then got his second of the game with another low drag flick, this one down the middle of the goal and through the gk's legs.

The battles continued and the constant rotation of the NS3 squad if 14 seemed to cause a little confusion on occasion, with runners not being marked, and with about 5 mind to go a smart move for NS3 led to a goal which, on the balance of the game, was probably deserved. Jandu made a very smart save however the ball was caught in his pads. As we all were looking for the ball it popped out from by his knee to the waiting forward, who simply needed to tap home.

Barely minutes later Lally got his hat trick - another drag flick but this one in the air. The keeper couldn't get to it and the OW2 2 goal cushion was restored as the game was seen out.

MOTM was a tie between Lally and Jandu. Captain's vote was for Jandu, so a deserved MOTM for our GK. Also to go on record is Lally's promise of a jug at our next game at Shrewsbury next week!
