Match Report | It was just the short hop to the Royal School for Old Wulfs 1s on a very wet Saturday as they took on Finchfield 3s. On paper, this should be a relatively easy fixture, but Wulfs were made slightly wary by the fact that this third team had recently beaten their second team. As it turned out though, it was quite easy. As in last week’s game, there was a quick start with two early goals from Andy Hobley. The Finchfield back line weren’t quite ready for the pace and movement of the Wulfs attack and Andy punished them with two good finishes. The rest of the first period continued in much the same vein, with Finches struggling to keep up with the pace of play. There were more goals from Will Ashworth (A bullet from the top of the D), Ben Hart (A low dragflick) and the pick of the first half from Sahib, who finished off a slick and sweeping team move. The home side also managed to score from a penalty corner to make it 5-1 at half time. The dominance continued in the second half and Wulfs didn’t slacken off with their hunger for goals. The movement of the forwards was something that Finchfield never got accustomed to, and they conceded another four before the end of play. One goal from Ben Hart and another three from Will that took his tally to four, rounded off the local derby thumping. A second penalty corner goal from Finches gave them a small amount of consolation, but the game ended a resounding 9-2. Man of the Match – Will Ashworth |
