Match Report | Old Wulfs hosted Bloxwich 2s looking for a second win in as many weeks. In came Ricky Lally to the 1s after scoring a hat trick for the second team in the previous week. The match started brilliantly for Wulfs with two quick goals from Andy Hobley. His first – the pick of all the goals scored on the day –was from a through ball that sent him one-on-one. He rounded the keeper and finished with his reverse stick from an extremely tight angle. Despite this early flurry, Wulf weren’t looking their best, with the instruction to use the whole of the pitch seemingly being ignored. Bloxwich then got one back via a well worked penalty corner and all of a sudden, things didn’t look so rosy. But that didn’t matter because, despite continuing to play in a mediocre fashion, Wulfs then proceeded to score three more before the half was over. Goals from Owen Shave, a penalty corner conversion from Ricky, and a shameless steal on the line by Darryl Ablard from a Will Ashworth strike, meant that it was 5-1 at the break. In the second period, the home team seemed to get their act together. They passed the ball well, used the pitch better and defended excellently. But for all this improvement, the hockey gods decided not to bless them with a goal. But then, Bloxwich couldn’t get any either, and the score line stayed the same until the final whistle. Another three points. Man of the Match - Ben Humpherson |
