Match Report |
When you lose a legend like Glyn Thomas to injury before the game begins, the omens aren't good. Fortunately there was another legend waiting in the wings! Yes, I kitted up to join my lad Jack for the Badgers.
A few people approached me later to say "oh you played in goal that explains the clean sheet". Well thanks for the ego boost but I only touched the ball once, thanks to the protection of Jack, Mike, Bhav, Justin etc.
Badgers games are sometimes "kids games" with a lot of ball chasing and little quality. Well this was a proper grown up game. The interplay between another father-son combination Justin and Kai, Sandeep, Ralph, Tom and of course the indomitable George was something very special to behold.
Wulfs were frustrated in the first half and missed a number of beautifully crafted opportunities, but it was one-way traffic really although the Lichfield youngsters had some talented players too, amazing really considering they put out 5 Badgers sides!
The second half provided two goals of great quality, the first by Sam being the best team effort and the second a marvellous strike from the edge of the circle at an angle, buried by Kai. He even smiled!
It was a terrific team effort, and I'm sorry for anyone I haven't mentioned but frankly I don't know all your names, but especially the lad who kindly volunteered to play for the opposition to make up the numbers.
Man of the match: Ralph. When I say "Paul Scholes" you will know what I mean. |
