Match Report

Old Wulfs were away at West Brom to play their final friendly before the start of the season.

From the off Wulfs seemed to be controlling the play, and as in the weeks previous, they established an assured rhythm of passing and when they were without the ball, managed to break down West Brom’s play in midfield.

Midway through the first period Old Wulfs got their reward when, after a fast move down the right, the ball broke to Matt Griffiths on the top of the D. He coolly controlled the ball and finished past the keeper.

Wulfs maintained their dominance for the rest of the half and had a host of other chances that should have meant that they went into the break at least two up. However they couldn’t find another finish, so the half ended at 0-1.

In the second half West Brom came back into the game, as Wulfs seemed to lose the tenacity in the middle of the park and were inviting pressure on. The rear guard stood firm though, and reduced the West Brom forwards’ attempts to mere half-chances.

While Wulfs were having less of the ball, they still looked a threat on the break and had several opportunities with quick overloads. After some more neat play down the right wing, Will Ashworth drove to the byline and got away a cross which found Matt Litchfield in front of the goal to deflect in.

From there, Wulfs continued to soak up pressure without their goal being majorly threatened, and the game ended in a deserved 0-2 victory.
