Match Report

Fifths faces Stourport 5ths in a home game hoping to have a full team and be more competitive than in the corresponding away fixture earlier in the season when we only had 10 players and lost another to injury during the game. In a tense pre-match 24 hours numbers were uncertain but by the start of the game we had a squad of 12 and could be optimistic about competing. As before Stourport had a mix of youth and experience with good players throughout, and had the better of early exchanges, eventually taking the lead from a prenalty stroke after an unlucky defensive foot on the line; 0 - 1 at half time. We started with good purpose in the second half and scored an equaliser in open play when Paul Johnson finished well from a pass from Will Watts. Stourport regained the lead from a goal in open play following hesitance in our defence, and added a third near the end of the game from a penalty corner. The better team won, but Fifths did compete and made Stourport work harder for the win this time. The game was played in an excellent spirit by both teams - everyone there to enjoy the competition.
