Match Report

Fifths travelled to Bromsgrove expecting a close game (our opponents shaded the game in the first half of the league 2 - 1) with a team including two players moving up from the Badgers squad for their first game with Fifths. We started brightly and created a couple of chances that we failed to convert; the defence then had a couple of moments of confusion and we found ourselves two goals down, which did not reflect the balance of play to that point. We conceded a third before half time when, from a penalty corner, the ball was prevented from crossing the line by a defenders foot and the resulting penalty stroke was despatched despite Dillworth in goal guessing the right way and almost getting to it. A couple of positional changes at half time and the team continued to work hard but generally frustrate its own efforts with misplaced or mis-hit passes....until....a fast and accurate pass from a free hit in our defensive area by Chan Singh was controlled by Barrie Sheldon on the right, who moved forward with the ball before delivering a fast and accurate pass to Paul Johnson who had made a good leading run away from his marker; Paul made ground with the ball toward the opposition 'D' before playing a fast and accurate square pass to Josh Harris who had made a good run into space in line with the far post; Josh controlled and played the ball into the goal in a single, confident, movement to score. Bromsgrove got a fourth goal from good open play and the game ended 1 -4 to our opponents but with Fifths having had a much improved game in the second half.
