Match Report

This week 5ths had the later 3pm slot at WGS and the sun was shining as Redditch 4ths arrived for the game. Redditch had a younger squad with two skilful and fast adults in their midfield, and 5ths had to work very hard to keep the score to 0 - 0 at half time. By then Barrie Sheldon had suffered an injury - but as we only had 11 players continued as 'walking wounded'. New player Manny Bains had shown pace and energy (as well as solid core skills) to help compensate. Dan Taylor had made some good runs but foundered against an experienced Redditch defence. Then came the second half.....Redditch got an early goal, which was no more than their pressure deserved. They didn't deserve their second goal, but we gave it to them anyway with a misdirected clearance. Redditch's third goal was their best - an excellent finish from one their two good junior players. 5ths then had their best period of the game, but were unable to convert any chances - and the Redditch keeper remained alert to turn Ray Jeff's shot past the post as the last play of the game. A disappointing result, and a less effective team performance this week.
