Match Report

5ths were away against Aldridge & Walsall 4ths with a late start but the advantage that it had stopped raining. We began with the now customary introductions, welcoming new member Mark Underwood, returning member Narjit Jabbal, loanees to the 4th team Andy Cooper Snr and Bob Munn and the occasionally available Luke Archer (only the five 'new faces' this week). We began the game with good purpose and put the our opponents goal under pressure from the start, but thanks to their excellent keeper and some wayward shooting the game reached half time goalless. We continued to attack in the second half and their keeper continued to play well; eventually James Fisher scored - good persistence from James in the face of determined effort from the keeper. We continued to stifle A&W's midfield play and attack ourselves, with Bob Munn finding lots of space to push forward on the right and Ray Jeff proving a challenge for their defenders. The second goal came from the best move of the game; Ray took the ball to the byeline on the right and, realising that the D was very crowded, picked out Andy Cooper Snr with a diagonal ball to the edge of the '23' and left of the goal; a wrong footed defence moved toeards the ball as a unit, leaving Mark unmarked about a yard from the goal - Andy arrowed the ball to Mark's stick and his first time shot gave the keeper no chance. A good team performance and a deserved result.
