Match Report | OW 4ths travelled to Bridgnorth on a foul, weather wise, afternoon, for the dreaded 4.30 start. Club unavailabilities left the 4ths with a bare 11, including the club president (whose last outing was also against Bridgnorth 6ths!) The game started badly for OW: a long hopeful ball was watched by all, appearing to be on its way out of play only for the water to hold it up and allow Bridgnorth to round Dill and slot home. The 4ths then settled and produced some good hockey with Anderson linking well with Sankey, Bains and Wall J. However the threat was always present from the Bridgnorth forwards and their quick ball caught OW out twice. 3 down at half time and the weather worsened which didn't seem possible! A positional rethink saw OW try to go more compact, but with the President becoming more isolated and some legs fading the pressure was applied relentlessly. Bridgnorth added 2 more, Dill saved a stroke and made several excellent saves. OW were not without chances - Anderson created much space, Mann fired inches wide of the far post from a short, Bains went close and Mann (stranded from pushing forward and unable to get back) just failed to lift over the keeper! A brave and committed effort in atrocious conditions but the 11 (whose age span was 72 years) were eventually well beaten |
