Match Report | A fast paced competitive game , against a well drilled stone side. Old Wulfs started well forcing the stone keeper into action twice in the first minute. Stone then dominated the next ten mins , Wulfs hardly touching the ball. Despite Dan making a number of fine saves Stone took a 1 0 lead from a short corner, at that point it was looking pretty bleak. However the youngsters in the team rallied , and we dominated the rest of first half, Josh and Pete combining well down the left, Jake making good runs and holding the ball up , Dan Taylor wobbling through and causing the stone defence all kinds of problems , Jo Mellis playing in an unusually defensive way making sure Stone could not get out of their own half. Jandu had a one on one chance v the keeper , forced wide by the keeper he could only hit the post. Soon after Jandu was found on the right hand side of the D by Dan T , his cross was deflected to Josh who bobbled home the equaliser. Dan Taylor then put in a short corner rebound to put Wulfs into a deserved 2 1 lead , which by half time could have been more. Stone returned to their good hockey in the second half , and had the Better of things , but Wulfs still provided a threat on the break. Stone after what seemed like about 15 good attempts on goal did eventually go into a 4 2 lead . Dan Jandu had his best game in goal for quite some time. We nearly scored from the last short corner of the game, Kram missing from a foot in front of goal with the goalie prostate on the ground, he got a bit too much elevation on his lob sending it over the bar. In general a pleasing effort and a good performance from Ben Wall on his first third team outing of the season. |
