Match Report

So it was back to winning ways for Old Wulfs, who, despite losing to Telford at home earlier on in the season went and won the away leg.

Having lost that first fixture and also missing some key players from the side, Wulfs probably expected a tougher test in this game, but that was never really the case. Telford rarely caused the Wulfs back line too much trouble and were happy to let them stroke it around without pressure until they attempted a pass forward.

Wulfs were relishing time on the ball but were patient about their build up play. The forwards were managing to break away with regularity, particularly up the right wing. After a slick passing move, a killer ball was played into the D for guest first-teamer Rich Roberts to coolly slot home to make it 1-0.

Another goal came soon after when Rich Saunders let go an impressive shot which beat the keeper and was going in, before Sahib kindly ‘made sure’ and tapped it over the line. 2-0 at half-time.

The second half was one to forget really. Old Wulfs continued to dominate proceedings and should have scored a few more, but it just wouldn’t happen. The home keeper did well on a number of occasions, including denying a goal-bound shout from Will Ashworth, and also smothering Saunders in a one-on-one.  It must also be said that play was broken up by some frankly baffling umpiring…

Then at the death, the clean sheet was to be lost when Telford managed a goal that was rather against the run of play and made for a final score line that flattered them somewhat at 2-1.
