Match Report | Old Wulfs rocked up to Wednesbury in a confident mood after a string of convincing wins. This would be the first match of the weekend as a rearranged game was organised for the following day. Simon Palmer was taken ill so the formation needed a small tweak, but this mattered little to Wulfs who put in an impressive performance. From the off it was the away side that were controlling things, patiently stroking the ball around and waiting for chances to strike. All in all it eventually turned into a game of attack vs defence, with Old Wulfs soaking up any pressure offered by Wednesbury and then scything through them with a series of fast moves forward. By half time it was 3-0, but even so, Wulfs were not satisfied with that amount of goals. In the second half Wednesbury seemed to have given up the ghost, offering little or no bite in midfield and allowing Wulfs to have the ball easily and launch ever more forays forward. In the end the score was 7-0, three of those coming from penalty corners with Owen Shave, Matt Griffiths and Andy Hobley scoring from them. The other goals from open play included another two from Owen to complete his hat trick, one from Will Ashworth and another from Darryl Ablard. An honourable mention must also go to Archie Harris who had unleashed a shot from the edge of the D which careered into the underside of the bar, bounced down into the goal and over the line (witnessed by several players) and spun back into the pitch. Agonisingly for Archie, the umpire claimed not to have seen it, so it wasn’t given. Unlucky. Man of the Match – Owen Shave |
