Match Report | This Sunday game away at North Stafford 2 was a rearranged fixture, so the usual squad of eleven players wasn’t available. So in came Sahib Duhra and Jack Pearson for their first-team debuts. Much like the previous day against Wednesbury, Old Wulfs started the game with confidence and control, working the ball well around the back and in midfield. Despite this, North Safford managed to repel a string of attacks for much of the first period. However, the breakthrough came after a bit of magic from Richard Saunders jinking down the right and then letting a shot go which deflected off a defender and into the goal. And before the break, there was time for another when Owen Shave deflected in at the far post from a penalty corner. Soon after half time Shave nabbed his second when, after good work from Sahib who shot towards goal, the ball found him in space to deflect in. Wulfs were so dominant by this point that, as with against Wednesbury, the game was simply attack vs defence with North Staffs creating nothing going forward. There was another goal when Will Ashworth dived for a cross inside the D. The ball popped up and Sahib was there to skilfully put away a downward volley into the goal. It then became 5-0 when Owen charged down the wing, unleashing a shot which was well saved, but then fell for Will in the middle of the D who simply flicked over the logged goalkeeper. The scoring was finished off with a penalty corner which was pushed towards Darryl Ablard on the left post for him to finish easily with the reverse stick. Ultimately this was a completely dominant display form Old Wulfs. So much so that Colin Pearson in goal didn’t touch the ball once in the entire 70 minutes. Also, an added bonus was a couple of excellent displays from the young debutants. Man of the Match – Sahib Duhra |
