Match Report

The New Year started with another convincing win for Old Wulfs 1sts as they travelled to Streetly.

Having won their previous league game 9-0, there was a confidence in the team and a belief that a similar result could happen against another side at the wrong end of the table, but again they were determined to play the right way and implement what had been worked on in training.

And, well, it worked. The final score was a satisfying 10-0.

In the last match report, I simply said who had scored the goals to save the laborious task of detailing every one. On this occasion though, we had Mike Birch running the subs and he kindly noted them down with brief details. They are as follows:

4’ Owen Shave breaks down the right and squares to Rich Saunders who scores through the keeper’s legs.

26’ Saunders drag flicks a penalty corner towards Matt Griffiths on the back post who skilfully deflects the airborne ball into the backboard.

33’ A mix up in the Streetly defence allows Andy Hobley in to slot away.

41’ A string of passes ends with Saunders able to tap in at the back post.

42’ A lifted ball to is played into Hobley who controls and finishes nicely with a reverse volley.

47’ Another overload ends with Hobley tapping in for his hat trick.

50’ An excellent dribble into the D from Darryl Ablard who offloads to Archie who finishes to the left of the keeper.

57’ After a nice one-two between Darryl and Griff, a ball into the D finds Will Ashworth who deftly defects into the bottom right.

62’ Will beats the keeper to a through ball, spins and finishes into an open goal.

65’ A shot rebounds off the keeper and falls to Ablard in the middle of the D who coolly strikes the ball home.

So there we go, ten goals. Whilst enjoyable, the focus must now shift to a tricky tie away at Stone next week.
