Match Report | In the final game of the calendar year, Old Wulfs stopped the rot with a comprehensive, if expected, demolition of bottom-of-the-table side Tamworth 2. In any game where one side is heavily favoured, it’s always important that the stronger team makes sure they stick to a prescribed game plan – and that is what Wulfs did for the opening of the game. Quick passing and good movement meant that is wasn’t long before they were two goals to the good, courtesy of strikes from Darryl Ablard and Matt Litchfield. Despite this positive start, Wulfs then seemed to drop a level in performance, perhaps due to some untimely substitutions, causing a loss of shape. Despite their overall dominance, they were unable to add to their goal tally again before the break. In the second period, Old Wulfs came out with renewed vigour and seemed determined to bag the extra goals that had evaded them in the first half. Again, the play was quick and purposeful with attackers consistently getting behind defenders to cause them problems. All in all, Wulfs managed to put another seven goals away, and as it would take a considerable amount of time to detail every one of these, it might be just be easier to say who scored them… One each for Rich Saunders, Matt Griffiths, Will Ashworth and another for Ablard, and also a welcome hat-trick for Andy Hobley who is taking well to his new forward role. Although this was an expected victory, it is certainly nice to go into the Christmas break on a positive note after some disappointing results. Bring on 2019! Man of the Match – Andy Hobley |
