Match Report | What a difference a week makes….. After three weeks of very good performances, culminating in an 8-1 win at Streetly last Saturday, we went into this week’s game against bottom of the league Lichfield with some confidence. True, our six goal dynamo of last week Martin Jandu had been deservedly promoted and a couple of others were not available, but we should have still been confident of a good result. Instead we were poor, in fact poor probably flatters us! We appeared to completely forget all the tactics of simple passing and using the pitch’s width that had previously been drilled in to us. The result was that Lichfield more than matched us throughout the goal-less first half. After a suitably frank half time team talk from Andy we started the second half with more purpose and were rewarded with a goal from a goal mouth scramble which I think was put in by John Murray (apologies to the scorer if it wasn’t!). However, instead of building on this we reverted to our first half nervy performance and began to soak up an increasing amount of pressure from a Lichfield side who were both growing in confidence and working harder than us. The inevitable happened and with 15 seconds to go a shot was not cleared properly and came back in, bounced off my pads straight to a Lichfield forward for a simple tap in. We have to learn from this and make sure this performance was a one off. Lichfield undoubtedly got what they deserved… and so did we!! Steve Rowlands |
