Match Report | I had a distinctly average performance today, so it was a good job that the rest of the team collectively put in one of the best performances I have seen from the 4ths in a long time. I believe this was the 4th's first league win in two years and it was fully deserved with four goals, two for John Murray and one each from Martin Jandu and Ed Carver scored against an experienced Stone side that scored two goals in return. The undoubted highlight was the performance from all those under the age of 20 a number of whom are fresh out of the badgers and are now really beginning to make their mark in the team. We were also blessed with an extremely solid performance from Pete "revelation" Prescott, making one of his all too rare on-field appearances these days. Another positive was the way that the team controlled the first half and passed the ball around opposition players rather than falling back on "route 1" tactics, something we have tended to do in the past. The learning points are not to take our foot off the gas when we go into half time a couple of goals up, something we did today which resulted in an early goal against us in the second half and we should also probably have done better with both of Stone's goals. However, nothing should take away from our continuing improvement in performance which should stand us in good stead for the balance of the season. Steve Rowlands |
