Match Report | After a delayed start (we wish the young Yardley lad a speedy recovery) the 3rd team continued their topsy turvey season against fellow strugglers Streetly, the away fixture being decided by a saved penalty 5-4. Old Wulfs started very strongly with Tustin and Roberts controlling the midfield and setting up attack after attack. The skipper and Jandu were a menace to the Streetly defence and it was no surprise when Jandu gave the Wulfs the lead. Colman and Thompson stretched the Streetly defence on the flanks and Tustin converted to make it 2-0. There was still time to for Jandu to get his 2nd before half time. 3-0 you would think game over the 2nd half brought evidence of the inconsistencies that have plagued us all season. The 2nd half started started like the 1st half finished with Jandu completing his hattrick. Wulfs then switched off and allowed Streetly to score. Wulfs continued to attack and the now injured Tustin got his 2nd. Streetly then scored their 2nd for 5-2. Thompson got into the act to make it 6. It was now that the injury to Tustin and the lack of match fitness of the skipper (first full match of the year) started to take it's toll. Streetly started to take control and scored a couple of sloppy goals. The last 5 minutes of the game were spent entirely in the old Wulfs box but the defence of Dillworth, Rai, Cooper, Hill and Jones stood firm. Man of the Match. The obvious candidates would be Jandu and Roberts. Colman had a game of enormous energy. However for for his best game of the season for the 3rds I'll give it to Tustin. |
