Match Report | A Sunday thriller at the patchwork Aldersley pitch for this rearranged league fixture. Stratford had beated us 7-0 earlier in the season. Stratford started the stronger in the first half but Old Wulfs gradually got into the game and had the lions play in the 1st half. A Cooper Jr screamer deflected wide by Tibble was one of the chances created. However hockey can be cruel and Stratford made the most of some hesitant defending and in a 10 minute spell before half time put in 3 goals. The Wulfs regrouped and Tibble hit in a thunderbolt before half-time to make it 3-1. Old Wulfs went in half time feeling slightly hard done by, but the message was clear a two goal gap isn't insurmountable. The 2nd half started badly and we let in another tame goal. Game over ? not on your nelly. The central midfield of Tibble, Upton and Cooper Jr took the game to Stratford, Green started stretching the defense. Cooper Jr pulled a goal back, followed a little later by a Tustin goal. With 10 minutes to go Cooper Jr capped the comeback. The last 10 minutes was a tight affair with the game anybody's for the taking. In the dying seconds Stratford attacked with a flowing passing move, with 11 seconds on the clock they scored the winner. Heartbreak for the Wulfs, but they should be proud of the performance, a great team effort in a game played in a great spirit. Man of the Match - Rai battled, Green stretched the defense, Tibble ran himself into the ground, Upton was a rock in the middle but for the 2nd day in a row the award goes to two goal Cooper who has claimed fhe defensive midfield role for his own. A super weekend of hockey from the Wulfs. |
