Match Report |
With the skipper testing the finest “afgan” Amsterdam has to offer Chris Tutton stepped forward but needs a little practise to acquire the inspirational Barack Obama level of Ed Hole’s pre game talk. We started with a rejigged side and Dave “ now Old Wulfs to the core” Ward stepped into the otherwise unchanged defence with aplomb for the return game against Gareth Minton’s Stafford. We started well and quickly went ahead after yet another Chris Nightingale short corner goal poach. Stafford though were a threat and equalised from a short corner which Jake again could do little about. Our 2nd was a lovely example of fast passing hockey with Chris Tibble converting for a 2-1 lead. Stafford themselves then managed a not dissimilar goal. Martin Jandu had managed a couple of great crosses which we were just unable to tap in. Joe Satchwell was a constant threat down our right wing. Joe later advised that his game plan was to “tantalise” the opposition with the ball. Anyway he certainly had the beating of the Stafford left back on every occasion. The second half really required largely more of the same and Chris Tibble managed his second goal. We managed to play well in parts but the last 10 minutes saw Chris Tibble drop into midfield to try to bolster efforts for a very difficult final period when we were under constant pressure from Stafford. We managed to see out the game with a 3-2 victory with a number of solid performances. Man of the Match was Dave Ward. |
