Match Report |
A cold Sunday saw a full team at the Royal School for the rearranged game against a strong Redditch side who had managed to bring 14 players and were in relegation trouble. We recognised we would have a tough game and despite the efforts of Jake in goal struggled throughout with the opposition short corner routine. Indeed they quickly went a goal ahead. We responded well to equalise and tried to contain their more able individuals who were very capable and certainly made for challenging individual battles. Indeed there were occasions of strong exchanges of views. We went in at half time losing 2-4 but feeling overall positive. We played well going forward and Owen took his chances well. However when we were not in possession we need to defend as a side and track back which didn’t always occur effectively. We went 3- 5 down and with 10 minutes or so remaining had to push forward when we were in possession to try to salvage a result. The score moved onto 4-6 and then to a final losing score of 5-7 . We tried hard against a side which possessed 2 or 3 very capable players at this level and were unable to control them. Owen managed another hat trick and Martin and Chris Nightingale added a goal each to their season’s tally. The Redditch team we played scored 1/6th of their seasons goals in this one game and that team should be at the top of this division not near the bottom. Man of the Match (nominated by the skipper this week) Jake Rowlands Next week we move on to Streetly who will again ensure a challenging game. |
