Match Report | Following late changes one or two players found themselves in unfamiliar roles but we were home to a Droitwich team which their results indicated would be an average side in this division. The first half saw again a good level of hockey with the predominantly old men at the back feeding a youthful midfield which looked to play crisp quick passes going forwards. However a counter attack by Droitwich saw an impressive reverse stick shot which hit the corner of the crossbar and post only to be inadvertently converted by a crestfallen Chris Nightingale. We continued to press and Sam Green made it 1-1 before Andy Cooper (in his third position in 3 games) took us into the lead with an angled shot from the edge of the D. We went into half time with a 2-1 lead but should have added to the tally. The second half started in a similar fashion but as it went on the desire and commitment displayed by Droitwich was clearly greater. Sam Colman having made the defensive midfield position his own had a busy time and we remained for a while reasonably solid at the back. An unfortunate “foot” was not blown for and the umpire played a good and correct advantage which saw Droitwich equalise. A counter attack by Droitwich led to a fairly easy third for the opposition. Following a fully committed challenge by Jake Rowlands we were considered by Droitwich to have been fortunate only to concede a short corner which was not converted. The game finished with a 2-3 defeat. Man of the Match – Sam Colman |
