Match Report

Another hard luck story for Old Wulfs. Playing the top two sides in the last two weeks, Wulfs have played some of their best hockey of the season, only to lose both times in agonising circumstances. Against Wednesbury Wulfs began in dominating style, ruling possession and carving the defence apart. 2 goals for the home side were converted, both in some style. Lally fresh from a shift at Primark set Wulfs on their way for the first with a trademark aerial leading to a back post tuck-away. The second came from a M Cartwright shot deflected in mid-air by Ablard into the top corner. It was one-way traffic. Ben Hart was the pick of the players with some unbelievable skill, and supported by the likes of Cartwright, Ashworth, Ablard, Griffiths, Shave, Thorpe et al the game was a joy to behold. But against the run of play Wednesbury pulled one back before half time and the game was poised closer than it should have been at the half. The second period was more even. But it was a series of bizarre umpiring decisions that turned the tide. Wednesbury converted two penalty corners, decisions which left even Wednesbury scratching their heads. Wulfs though weren't as fluid as they had been in the first half and failed to create the number of chances they had before. With three games to go the mighty Wulfs must play as well as they have in the last two weeks to pick up the points they need against lesser opposition. On a separate note we send our best wishes to the Yardley youth airlifted to hospital in the Badgers match before our game.
