Match Report At times of peak congestion, the pitch at Sneyd school becomes a 4th lane of the M6. On a Saturday afternoon, however, it is free of traffic and available for hockey. The slippery bouncy surface is difficult to manage, and players are issued with ear defenders to keep out the sound of passing juggernaughts. After being defeated by Wulfs earlier in the season, Bloxwich match report stated Wulfs were the worst team they had played, and were unlucky to lose. That was pretty much all the motivation needed to put in a good performance and make it a double. The game began fairly even, with both sides passing the ball around well. The opening goal came from a dreadful piece of defending by Bloxwich, presenting Wulfs with the ball which was squared for Ablard to poke it into an empty net. Bloxwich looked stunned, but the equalised in bizarre circumstances. The winger brought the ball in from the right hand side and, looking to square it he sliced the ball inside a wrong footed and red faced keeper. It wasn't long thought until Wulfs were ahead again, thanks to a brilliant reverse shot into the corner by man of the match Birch. Chances were happening at either end. Keeper Pearson cynically tripped a Bloxwich player. Verdict: long corner. Never has the word "lol" been more apt. Half time: 2-1 Thorpe launched a purple-faced tirade by way of a half time team talk. Then he went off to play with the kids. But Wulfs had listened to his advice, and weathered an onslaught at the start of the second half. Droitwich pushed hard but took a classic sucker punch when Wulfs converted a penalty corner from Lally. Birch on the right wing was rampant, like a slim lion, with Dave Cartwright combining well in his tatty shorts. The home side seemed to fade thereafter. Wulfs made it 4 thanks to another Lally drag flick. Droitwich rarely threatened and the game petered out. A great win for Old Wulfs with Kingswinford coming up the following day.
