Match Report |
The first XI emerged from hibernation to face their first match of the year. Sadly, several key players seem to still be hiding away in their winter nest and were unavailable to face a Droitwich side hell-bent on revenge since being beaten 5-2 earlier in the season.
Wulfs settled into a pattern of play involving Thorpe returning from long-term injury to boss the midfield. Humpherson also made a welcome return to the team.
But it was Droitwich who broke away twice in the first half to take the advantage and a two nil lead.
Lally had a penalty stroke saved and the talented away team keeper made a couple of crucial saves.
Before half time Thorpe crashed a long ball into the circle that no player in red was going to get near. However the keeper managed to fumble the ball off his pads into the goal. It was just the break that Wulfs needed.
In the second half things continued as they had in the first, with Wulfs keeping possession but not creating much, then Droitwich scoring on the break. 3-1.
Birch was sin-binned for an ill-advised tackle.
With 5 minutes to things were looking grim, but the Ashworth followed up his own saved shot and narrowed the deficit.
Keeper Pearson subbed himself off to leave 11 outfielders to try and salvage a point. Which they did with another own goal from the keeper, this time from a Dave Cartwright ball.
It wasn't a pretty way to get a draw, and Droitwich were feeling pretty hard done by, but hey, who cares? |
