Match Report

Wulfs huffed and puffed to a dramatic point against struggling Stafford.

On another slippy slidey pitch at Beaconside the home team began strongly with a confidence that belied their position in the league, whilst Wulfs laboured to string a series of passes together. However chances were few and far between, until a shot cruelly deflected put Stafford into an early lead.

In response, Wulfs managed to create a penalty corner. Lally stepped up to mis-drag a shot that the keeper dived all around but couldn't prevent from entering the goal.

Half-time in a pretty dour game and Wulfs knew they had to change the storyline.

But Stafford had other plans and were ahead once again soon after the restart. A straight ball into the circle looked to roll innocently out for a 16, but instead hit the post and bounced onto the stick of an attacker for an easy finish.

For the first time in the game Wulfs began to attack with purpose, albeit without being able to recreate the quality hockey of earlier in the season.

As time began to run out, Wulfs withdrew the 'keeper to play with 11 outfielders. Finally the pressure started to tell. A string of penalty corners lead to a last chance pc as time had run out. The shot from Griffiths deflected up to the stick of Brown who lobbed the diminutive goalie for his first goal in years.

It was a moment to celebrate but Wulfs need a reality check after another poor show, and Stafford will feel like they have been robbed after a game they should have won.
