Match Report

Old Wulfs slumped to opening day defeat on day one of their West Mids 1 campaign.

Early possession hockey from Wulfs failed to result in any significant threat to the organised Leamington defence, and the visitors soon took the lead thanks to a mishit shot which bounced agonisingly over the keeper. Insult added to injury when a cruelly deflected penalty corner effort ricocheted into the roof of the net.

The Warwickshire side added a third before half time when a defensive lapse resulted in a two-on-one situation.

Old Wulfs reverted to a 3-5-2 for the second half, hoping to inflict a Ryder Cup style come back upon the opposition. But the spirit of Seve failed to materialise despite the best efforts of man-of-the-match Matt Cartwright. Penalty corner opportunities were squandered, and finally another error at the back led to another Leamington goal which proved the final nail in the coffin.

Old Wulfs will need to improve quickly in order to hoist themselves off the bottom of the table.
