Match Report | A largely forgettable game as Wulfs played their last pre-season friendly. Several factors were to blame: the lack of key players, strong opposition, a cup match the following day, a pre-match team-talk that included the phrase "this game doesn't really matter". And in the scheme of things it was a game that didn't matter, but it was rather a shame to see Wulfs abandon many of the positive habits they have developed during summer league and pre-season. A forlorn broken-handed Humpherson on the sideline seemed to attract dark rain clouds as the sweat-glistening bonce of John Ashmore failed to reflect any sunlight. Defensive catastrophes allowed Walsall to pick their opportunities at will, as Wulfs failed to pass the ball with any confidence. The second half subsided into chaos, and culminated in Mike Birch picking up a yellow card for a minor infraction. Wulfs will want to put this performance behind them before the league begins.
