Match Report | On Friday this game didn't look like it would happen with at one point only six players happy to make the 12.00 start at Wednesbury. Thanks to the bionic man (Rich Cartwright) we ended up with 13 including some faces rarely seen in the 1sts. Two father-son partnerships (Coopers & Nightingales) made it a family affair; Kram made his 1sts debut at the age of 44. Minton returned for the first time since coming back to Old Wulfs, and McNay stepped up from the 2s. Despite this Wulfs looked like a side that had been playing together all season. Palmer hobbled around on an injured foot but still comfortably martialed the defence, and made a goal line clearance. Ablard opened the scoring with a penalty stroke before the moment of the game as Roger Cooper smashed the winner from an angle. I wonder if her has stopped smiling yet? The second half was goalless but Wulfs were in control as Wednesbury began to bicker among themselves. A terrific and unexpected end to the season! MoM: Roger Cooper. Thanks to those who stepped in to make the game happen. This was my last game as stand-in captain! It's been a pleasure to lead a team that's worked hard to develop through the season, and here's what I have to say to our regular players: Palmer: Top coach, solid defence and great distribution (most the time). Master provider of Haribo. Cartwright: Immense defence. Major merchant of banter. Samra: High-five supplier. Aerial needs work. Nobody gets past him. Ablard: The Roger Federer of hockey. Ageless, stylish and balletic. Hobley: Fast & furious. A whirlwind of pain. Harris: Sometimes smiles. A midfield terrier, albeit a rather sad one. Taylor: A revelation this season - devastating pace and control. Moody sod. Lichfield: Mr Reliable. "Back-post Lichy". An oasis of calm when others are losing their heads. Griffiths: Another terrier! Hard work is his middle name. Nightingale: Fortunately nothing like his dad.Goals... and nobody ever knows where his reverse shots will go, but definitely nowhere near the goal. Aldersley: Long haired lothario. Introduction of headband enhanced his performances unsurprisingly. Ashworth: "Yip-yip" First name on the teamsheet, even when on the other side of the planet. Finally, Richard Cartwright. Unofficial team Manager, umpire and inspiration. Wise as Yoda and just as wrinkly. |
