Match Report

The first round of the Masters Cup is always a tricky one - win and you face a tough fixture in the next round. Lose and you go into the lower tier competition and stand a chance of going further. Harj tried to help us lose by turning up at the wrong venue...

So we did exactly the right thing - draw the game then lose on penalties!

Wulfs fought back well after going two-nil behind. Peterborough moved the ball quickly from defence to attack and finished their chances well.

Simon Palmer playing an unusual role as centre forward deflected a penalty corner effort neatly over a sprawling 'keeper to pull one back, but Peterborough immediately struck again.

The bare 11 of Peterborough tired in the second half, and became tetchy as Wulfs pressed to get back into the game. Kam Maan surged into the D and smashed an effort home for 2-3, then Simon Evans finished smartly to level.

And so it went to penalties and despite goals from Maan, Lally and ThompsonĀ it was the away side that went through.

Still it's onto the next round where we will hopefully meet weaker opponents!
