Match Report

Old Wulfs 4ths welcomed Old Hales 5ths to WGS in bright sunshine, a welcome break in the weather that lasted the whole game.

Old Wulfs put out a squad with 6 players under 18. They acquitted themselves admirably against a well drilled Hales side  boasting an experienced spine supplemented by some talented youngsters. With little possession Wulfs still kept the opposition down to a series of half chances. The deadlock was finally broken by a fortunate deflection that looped over young Jandu in goal.

In the 2nd half after a brief reorganization Wulfs were more potent. After some good link up play between Becket and Lally, Wilson found himself on the byline and put in an excellent cross that just evaded Lally.

Becket and Lally the combined again with a series of passes to work their way into the D, unfortunately Lally couldn't work a return pass when he couldn't adjust his feet in time. He almost made amends when he found Sankey with a pass to the far post, unfortunately the shot just off target.

Then the decisive moment of the game, a speculative long pass led to a chase between Lally and defender for the ball. The defender favourite for the ball was beaten to the ball by Lally who found himself charging on goal. Having done the hard work Lally let himself down with a weak shot that the keeper managed to get his stick to. The ball broke and Hales worked it down to the other end to score.

Rough justice for an improved 2nd half display.

Looking at the positives

- Good display from young Jandu, both young keepers today played with a presence well beyond their years.

- The evergreen back four (combined age over 220 years) limited their younger Hales opponents to a limited number of chances

- The central midfield marshalled by Anderson put in an excellent shift, Kumar and Becket working hard to feed the attack.

- The youngsters out wide (Murray, Wilson, Johnson and Sankey) always made themselves available for the ball and worked to support Lally in attack.

Another positive performance to take into the New season next week.

P.S The highlight of the day, having Andy Hamilton at pitchside to watch. Next time Andy we hope to give you a better result.
