Match Report | The pre-season for OWHC ended on a high with a controlled win. With numerous players late due to road works (and Kam) a full warm up wasn't possible so OWHC managed as best they could. The game started tentatively with both sides cagey going forwards and not settling into a rhythm. Will Ashworth found space on the right however and after beating two guys laid a chance on a plate for litchfield, his goal bound shot was, however, blocked by a leg on the line. Shave sent the keeper the wrong way from the subsequent penalty flick. OWHC started to look brighter and began to control the distribution of the ball. With Old Hales on the back foot, Daz found Shave with a pinpoint pass, Shave then deflected the ball onto the run of Ashworth who managed to beat his man and swivel a good finish past the goalkeeper from a tight angle. Half time - OWHC 2-0 Old Hales The second half featured more battles in midfield with neither side capable of making meaningful progress. Chances were spurred by Old Hales and OWHC respectively. Callum, Sam Aldersley, Ashworth and Griff probed the defence but could not create a clear cut chance. A short corner was won following a quick counter attack. The initial effort by Shave was poor, but the ball fortuitously fell for Shave again in the middle of the D who made no mistake with the keeper out of position. OWHC could have added to their tally further, but were unable to make the most of good opportunities in the final third. Nonetheless, Old Hales continued toil to little effect as they were starved of possession throughout. Full time - OWHC 3-0 Old Hales A good end to pre-season for OWHC. 3 wins and 1 loss against strong opposition shows steps being taken in the right direction. The league begins next week with a game against Yardley at home - OWHC will be hoping to start their promotion campaign with a win. Man of the Match - Simon Palmer |
