Match Report | Could the game live up to the tension of the journey there...would 5ths have 10, 11 or 12 players? Thanks to mobile communications (it would never have happened in the days of postcards...) we had 12 players, including Peter Yates and James Archer making their first appearance / first appearance this season for 5ths respectively. Against a useful Stafford 5th team we survived a close fought first half with both teams having their opportunities and the score remaining level at 0 - 0. Early in the second half, James Archer converted the latest of several short corner opportunities to put us in front. The defence handled Stafford's trickiest player well - more effectively that in the first half - and we largely remained in control of the game. Much credit also goes to 'The Wall' (Ian and Ben) whose tireless effort and tenacious tackling did much to keep Stafford at bay. About five minutes from the end of the game we opened up the Stafford defence and Alex Sankey wrong footed the Stafford keeper to score our second goal. So, a 2 - 0 win from a great team effort including a cameo in the darker arts of defending from Andy Cooper Snr and yet another clean sheet for Glyn which earned him free concert tickets from his sponsors! |
