Match Report | The last Saturday game of the season took the fourth team to local rivals Finchfield 4s. The teams started the day at apposite ends of the table so we know we had a tough game ahead. Finches started the stronger and started to boss the game, they made their domination count with the opening goal. Finches were fully on top but Wulfs inched into the game by winning a series of shorts which went without success. What then followed was the finest five minutes of the current Wulfs season, the midfield trio of Anderson, Wall (I) and Minton started to force panic to their counterparts. A short corner shot from Minton was saved but he dipped the rebound against the backboard. Next a flowing move started by Mann found Wilson out wide, he slipped the ball inside to Lally who marrauded forward and spotted debutant Ben Farmer making a lung busting charge on goal, the pass came in and he controlled and layed it off for Minton who powered his shot high past the goalkeeper. Next Anderson spotted Wall wide on the touchline, he controlled and crossed for Lally to tap home past the keeper. Finches were obviously upset that a game they had seemingly controlled was now slipping away from them. The regrouped and pulled a goal back before half time. The second half saw both sides make chances with Lally and Wilson going close. Finches converted to equalise. As much as the first half saw some fantastic offensive play from Wulfs the real heroes of the game were the defensive 5. Munn, Savage, Cox and Mann had to stage a monumental effort to repel the increasing pressure. However the real star of the day was Horton in goal who produced some great saves with his feet and legs. On the final whistle Wulfs survived three tense short corners, but held out for the draw. A great effort from the lads to share the points in a game where we were second best at times. We finish the season on Tuesday at home to Shrewsbury. |
