Match Report | On a day where the elements couldn't quite make up their mind what the weather should be Old Wulfs 4ths welcomed a youthful Lichfield side to WGS. From the outset Wulfs were dominant with Minton and Anderson bossing the midfield. Lone striker Lally being admirably backed by the youth and pace of Fisher, Ward and Pearson. Wulfs created chances including a number of shorts. From one of these Minton swept home to open the scoring. More chances arrived and from some excellent work by Ward, Lally found himself wide in the D with the the keeper charging out, a first time shot eluding the keeper and rolling home. Wulfs were unfortunate not to have scored more in the half but were made to pay when a late short was converted before the break. The second half was more even but Wulfs continued to create more, unfortunately they conceded again with Lich drawing level. Wulfs upped their work rate and Anderson started to pick out his passes, one of these found Lally at the edge of the D, he checked as Minton made a run on his outside, the pass came and he swept home. Minutes later after good work on the left Minton crossed to find Lally at the far post with no keeper in sight. After a agonizing pause while he controlled the ball and adjusted his feet he tapped home. The game finished messily with a trio of cards for Lichfield (two greens and a yellow) and the rare sight of Cox playing peacemaker. The veteran backline stayed firm and brought the game to a quiet conclusion. A deserved 3 points in a game which at one point there was a possibility of an abandonment (poor visibility in a mini blizzard). Tomorrow we entertain Shrewsbury before we finish the season against local rivals Finchfield next week.
