Match Report

The 4th team welcomed the league leaders Bridgnorth 4ths to WGS. The opposition arrived with a 100 % record this season.

The opposition started strongly and Horton in goal pulled off a fantastic save from a reverse hit. The same player on the reverse then shot just wide. Wulfs worked their way in to the game and gained some possession without really threatening. Towards the end of the half the stand in opposition skipper was yellow carded for speaking out of turn to the umpire. This seemed to inspire the opposition and right on the half time whistle the earned a short corner and then three more in succession. From one of these Wulfs went down to 10 men after a player comment to the umpire resulted in a yellow card. From the fourth short pressure told and the first goal was bundled home.

A half time team talk from the skipper asked the players not to feel sorry for themselves and continue the hard work and commitment.

Wulfs took the game to Bridgnorth in the second half. From a dribble on the edge of the pitch Lally found the defender's stick and he was unlucky to deflect the ball into his own face (thankfully no lasting damage). From the resulting short the ball went out to Mann who slipped the ball to Lally, as the defender approached Lally put it back to Mann who swept home for the equaliser (now level on league goals scored with his dad, #NotSoAwkward). Bridgnorth upped their game and within minutes went back into the lead. Wulfs continued to press and from a mazy Anderson dribble found Lally in the D, with defender and goalkeeper running him down slipped the ball to the far post for Wilson to score a well deserved equaliser.

In the last few minutes Lally found himself clear at the edge of the D, spotting a fantastic Wall (B) run at the far post tried to put him through only to be thwarted by a last gasp interception.

At the final whistle Bridgnorth earned a short corner and sent everyone forward. With nerves jangling on the sidelines they forced another. Thankfully the back line held firm and a hard deserved point earned.

The first side this season that Bridgnorth 4ths have dropped points to, a fantastic team performance, you should all be proud. The aim now to take this effort into the remainder of the season.
