Match Report | A late cry off and a promotion to the third team left the 4th team with ten players for the visit of Sutton Coldfield. In came the evergreen Mike Mann to ensure a starting 11 for the game. A young Sutton side were the better side in the first half but it was Wulfs who broke the deadlock. A cross from Munn found Mann in the D, he turned and shot through the keeper to take the lead (84 years young but he's still got it). The goal spurred Sutton into action and they started to dominate, Horton in goal was having a great half but could do nothing to stop a great effort from one of the Sutton youngsters. The second half was a tale of both sides missing out with short corners. Wulfs earned six and Mann (Jr) forced the keeper into a couple of saves and also saw efforts go just wide and just over. Sutton earned themselves a dozen or so shorts which were kept out by the resolute back 5, finally the odds worked in Sutton' s favour and a short was converted. So a 2-1 defeat but the game will be remembered for Mike Mann stepping in at late notice and for being the oldest goal scorer in the history of the club (and possibly the league). Also worth noting that he has more league goals this season than skipper Russell Mann (#Awkward). |
