Match Report

The fourths travelled to Shrewsbury for a late start on a bitterly cold day. Shrews started the game in last place in the league but their performances have been better than their position in the table suggests.

The game was a battle between two differing styles of play. The more direct approach of Shrews and the more passing style of Wulfs. Honours were shared in the first half, Shrews broke the deadlock but were then pinned back by two Wulfs efforts. The first from a slick passing move, Murray found himself the furthest man forward and was fed by Cooper Jr, Murray held the ball and waited for reinforcements, cue a pass to Lally who passed to the far post for Wilson to tap home. The second goal game from a Cooper Jr free hit which deflected straight to Lally who slid the ball under the keeper. Unfortunately Wulfs couldn't hold the lead and Shrews equalised.

Half time brought some concern for the home umpire who having umpired his second game began to turn blue, a brief trip indoors and he thankfully returned (a healthier shade).

The second half was a frustrating affair , the young Wulfs midfield (four teenagers and a twentysomething) bossed the game but it was Shrews who took the lead. Wulfs came close - a Lally turn and shot, and a Ward cross which found Beckett in front of goal, unfortunately he couldn't adjust his feet in time.

A defeat but still positives to take from the performance. Next week we welcome Cannock to WGS.
