Match Report | A home clash today for the 4ths against fellow mid table side North Staffs 4ths. The first half was dominated by the Wulfs with Anderson and Mann controlling the middle of the park. An early breakthrough was made by Lally who ran onto a through ball and stroked the ball home into the corner before the keeper could even move towards the ball. More chances came through some fine passing between Wilson, Maundrell, Fisher and Lally but unfortunately our set-up play wasn't matched by our finishing. Wulfs were made to pay when against the run of play Staffs equalised. The 2nd half started poorly for the Wulfs with the opposition bossing possession. Chances fell to both sides but Staffs were more clinical and took the lead. Wulfs then had their weakest portion of the game and play for both sides became a little scrappy. In the last quarter Wulfs changed gear and began to press for an equaliser. An excellent Fisher cross eluded Wilson at the far post. Anderson then put in a cross at pace, Lally on the reverse deflected the ball towards goal, the spin on the shot bamboozled the last defender and the keeper, 2-2 and game on. Moments later Maundrell broke loose and fed Lally in the box, he swept home for his hat trick goal. There was still time for some near misses from Wilson and Maundrell. Pearson moved into midfield and helped ensure that in the remaining minutes the ball was kept in the Staffs half. So in the end a well earned victory. The team continue to gel and build chances, the aim now is to improve our decision making in front of goal and kill off games sooner. Overall still a good effort from the lads. Next week we visit table toppers Bridgnorth 4ths. |
