Match Report | A beatuful day at the Grammar, sun shining, everyone in great sprits, even Buckley turned up in time for the warm up, all in all a lovely day for a game of hockey.....or so it seemed. The game started at a frenetic pace with neither side really able settle into a decent pattern of play. There were few clear chance but Palmer (having been dropped from the firsts) slotted a very neat ball through to Tibble (sans defender) in the D, his first touch was awful which meant he took it too wide, he got a shot in but it was an easy save for the keeper, who added insult to injury by deflecting the ball onto Tibbles foot for a fee hit. Another attack saw the ball injected to Buckley who skillfully deflected the shot but the keeper made an excellent save. Old Wulfs did manage to find the net when Archie robbed the defender and the ball broke into the D, unfortunatelty for Archie Palmer took the ball off him for an easy tap in past the keeper. Half time one nil. Cue the half time team talk which ended with someone saying, mentioning no names - "come on lads we've got this, easy win" or words to that effect. This prediction looked in doubt not long into the second half when Craing was beaten by a miss hit short corner strike that bounced, a la Barnes Wallis, over the outstretched kicker. Not long after Old Wulfs luck firmly ran out when the Drayton forward controlled the ball with side of his foot (confirmed by the player himself after the game) but was able to continue into the d and reverse hit a shot into the goal. After this we pretty much hit the self destruct button, passing was awful, in fighting a plenty etc etc, however there were more chances including one where Palmer (having been dropped from the firsts) slotted a very neat ball through to Tibble (sans defender) in the D, his first touch was awful which meant he took it too wide, he got a shot in but it was an easy save for the keeper, who added insult to injury by deflecting the ball onto Tibbles foot for a fee hit (seem familiar). Blah blah blah, Drayton scored two more which flattered them. MOM - Andy Fun moment of the day - Palmer trying to slide on a dry pitch and ending face planting on the side line. |
