Match Report

First league game of the season saw a welcome return of a couple of old faces, Messrs Hole and Taylor, as well as the welcome addition of a new face, Andy Hobley (not forgetting the value add of all our regular players)

We were playing against Aldridge and Walsall who played in West Midlands 1 last year so were a bit of an unknown quantity but we expected a tough game.

The game started at a fairly frenetic pace with neither side really settling down into rythm. Old Wulfs tried to play some open hockey and pass the ball around but with a significant amount of youth and energy in the Aldridge side we found ourselves closed down very quickly. Our chosen outlet was through Ricky Lally who consistently put in some excellent aerials  down the line and diagonally accross the pitch.

The fist clear chance came with a break down the right with a great ball put at pace into the D with Tibble unmarked.........and he completely missed the ball. Fortunately, not long after a nice triangle of passes between Buckley and Tibble saw the ball once again crossed in by Buckley for Tibble to get a reverse stick deflection over the keeper.

1-0 half time.

Second half went pretty much like the first with few open chances for either side. However, Old Wulfs gained a little bit of breathing room when Ricky injected a ball from the 25 yard line at considerable pace and with a little height (but not enough to be deemed dangerours) and an excellent reaction from Ash Taylor saw it deflected into the goal. The second half did see some pressure from Aldridge that did create some chances but an ever alert Dillworth kept anything and everything at bay, until.........

A break from Aldridge, Dill went out to meet the attacker, there was a shot, deflected off Dill, which fortunately was going about 2 foot wide. However, a certain Mr Nightingale in full flight decided he would try and prevent a long corner and try to put the ball out for a sideline hit. Unfortunatley, he had decided to go back accross the open goal and so passed it straight to the attacker, and despite getting the to the shot the ball defected off Tibble's stick into the goal......2-1. Captain Tibble saw the funny side and said never mind, these things happen (or words to that effect).

The rest of the game saw quite a bit of ptressure on the Old Wullfs defense but due to some good tackling and concentration to the end we held out for a very satisfying victory.

Man of the Match  - Ricky The Aerial Lally

Most humourous comment of the Day -Question to Ricky - "Is Kram your Uncle", the reply, "no he's my Dad's brother"

DOD - no need to ask.
