Match Report | Since Ash Taylor's return to Old Wulfs he has had a renaissance in both personality and performance the likes of which we have rarely seen at the club. Whatever caused this transformation it's the club that's benefitted and none more so than in this game against the club he so mistakenly moved to a couple of seasons ago. Wolverhampton, fighting for the league title with Leamington, were hoping for another 3 points in this famous old firm derby. Taylor rocked the visitors in the first minute with a magnificent solo effort to put Wulfs in the lead. Wolverhampton reacted well by taking control of possession, without threatening the Wulfs goal too much. Palmer had to drop back from his new attacking role to help out in defense, but the triumvirate of Samra, Lichfield and Cartwright held firm and there was only one real chance of note for Wolverhampton in the first half, saved by Pearson. The half-time team talk was drowned out by the sound of a screaming Wolverhampton coach giving his players the hair dryer treatment. Someone should perhaps tell him it's just a game. The second half continued in a similar vein with Wolverhampton dominating but finding it hard to create opportunities, and with a penalty corner routine that wasn't working. They found a way back in though when a goal-mouth scramble and a foot on the line led to a penalty stroke, and the equaliser was followed up with the go-ahead goal. It was a familiar story against our old foes and looked like they would get the win they deserved on the balance of play. However, Wolves for some reason changed their tactics after taking the lead which helped Wulfs to regain a competitive advantage. In the dying seconds the Wolves GK had to kick clear but lifted the ball and Wulfs had a penalty corner which god-like Taylor dispatched to save a point, and save Wulfs 2018 unbeaten record.
