Match Report | Another draw and another point, but this time against top of the league Leamington, a team not too keen on even starting the game in thick snow at WGS, and muttering about "getting the three points if we can't play". Pre-game heroics from Palmer and others to scrape the lines clear helped to show Old Wulfs meant business. We are made of harder stuff in the Black Country (except Sam) and were keen to get playing. Leamington, an organised and capable side, played with a confidence that ensure Wulfs had to be mistake-free throughout the game. Chances were at a premium at either end, but a busy Wulfs midfield kept the visitors largely in check; notably Taylor and Hobley providing a high-revving engine. Palmer was key to the game at both ends; Leamington scored a 'controversial' goal with the Wulfs player-coached befuddled first by a lack of whistle for a Leamington back stick, then a whistle in their favour for unknown reasons, leading to a goal. Then Palmer 'pretended' to miscontrol a penalty corner injection, spun, and supplied the killer pass to set up an equaliser. At 2-2 Wulfs began to tire in the last ten minutes and Leamington applied much pressure, but team-defending Wulfs prevented Pearson from needing to make more than a couple of saves. Undefeated in 2018! M.O.M - Ash Taylor. |
