Match Report | The opening day of the season featured a game against a Yardley who had set up to keep 10 men behind the ball for the duration of the match. OWHC controlled the game comfortably and forced Yardley to resort to simply hitting the ball up the pitch to relieve pressure. After a period of probing the defence, Daz slipped in Shave to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Shave then unselfishly squared the ball to Ashworth to put OWHC 1-0 up. OWHC continued to try find a way, but a combination of scrappy defending and downright bad luck saw them toil fruitlessly. Eventually Ashworth managed to squeeze himself into a gap and onto a through ball before superbly reverse hitting the ball at an uncomfortable angle to make it 2-0. Yardley managed to create a chance via a short corner, forcing Colin into his only save of the game with an acrobatic tip over the bar. HT - OWHC 2-0 Yardley The second half saw OWHC continue as before. Chance after chance was created but the Yardley keeper seemed to be at the top of his game, denying Shave/Ashworth/Callum/Sam and Archie on numerous occasions. Daz however collected the ball within the D and dodged, ducked, dipped, dived, dodged between several Yardley players to finish emphatically past the keeper to make it 3-0. The second half ended as a non event, Yardley never seemed willing to come forward and the scrappiness of the game made it tough for OWHC to add to their tally. FT - OWHC 3-0 Yardley MOTM - Daz |
