Match Report

So Old Wulfs embarked on the last game of the summer league season still searching for their first win. Could they do it?

No.

But then they were playing a very good side in Halesowen, who were comprised of mostly first team players and also a would-be Cannock 3rd teamer apparently.

So yeah, the match.

From the first whistle it didn’t look too good, with Wulfs passing the ball straight to the opposition on the edge of the D twice within the first two minutes. Thankfully these errors weren’t punished by Halesowen and Wulfs then managed to gain a modicum of composure and started to pass the ball properly.

It was hard going though. Halesowen were proving a level above in fitness and were also regularly rotating two to three players, meaning Wulfs were constantly being ran down in midfield and struggling to keep up with marking.

Midway through the first half, the away side made the breakthrough. A drilled ball into the D was guided into the goal with a deft touch from the striker to make it 1-0. For the remainder of the half, Wulfs were resolute in defence despite Halesowen having a few more good chances before the whistle blew for half time.

After the break, it was a similar story. The away side were bossing the midfield, with attacking opportunities few and far between for Wulfs. That said, the game remained at 1-0 for a large chunk of the second half before Halesowen managed to score again. After that goal went in, however, things started to slip. Wulfs seemed to half give up on the game (and probably the season) and were not matching the industrious work rate that had kept Halesowen frustrated more most of the match.

So basically they scored another four goals and it ended 6-0.

Not the greatest summer league season, it has to be said, but we were put in with some very strong sides and frustratingly drew a lot of games. There were also some good run outs for young and new players as we gear up for the regular season.
